When we copy and paste any specific file whose size is more than 4GB to the external storage device. Then, we get a standard error saying that “File too large, the file is too large for the destination file system.” This error can be faced by any Windows PC or Laptop user when he or she will try to copy and paste an ISO File to the USB storage. Suppose you need to copy and paste any file whose size is more than 8GB, then how you will do so? Exactly, the same issue is going to be solved if you will read this helpful article to the end.

How to Fix Too Large For The Destination File System

If someone would like to solve the file too large for the destination file system issue. Then, there is no software or any other resource is needed. If I talk to you in simple words, then it can be solved by formatting the FAT32 to NTFS. Definitely, it is totally free as well as it is a Windows built-in feature. No doubt that after doing the same you will be able to copy and paste large files. But, it has an important and vital drawback as well. If you will you this technique, then all the data which is present in your pen drive or USB storage device will be erased. so, before you do so make sure you have a backup of your storage device in which you are copying the file(s).

  1. Assuming that you have inserted the USB device in your PC or Laptop.
  2. Right-click on the pen drive or the USB storage device which you are using.
  3. Now, click on the Format option.
  4. Then, under the File System option select NTFS.
  5. You can see that FAT32 is the default recommendation by the system.
  6. Lastly, click on the Start button.
  7. Once it is done, then you are free to copy and paste any large file to it.

How to Fix Too Large For The Destination File System Without Formatting

Suppose that you have important data on your USB storage device and you don’t have any other item to take a backup of it. Then, how you will be able to copy and paste the large file to it using the formatting option. Definitely, you will not be able to do so as well as you will not want to lose that important data also. Don’t worry, let me tell you that you don’t have to be sad about that because there is a possible way to do the same. Of course, you can do so using a free Windows application which can be used in Windows 7, 8, 10 very easily. Let me explain the method for you in brief.

  1. Get the EaseUS Partition Master on your Windows PC or Laptop.
  2. Now, install it as you install other applications on your Windows system.
  3. Once done then open the EaseUS Partition Master application.
  4. After that, select your USB storage device from the list and right-click on it.
  5. Then, click on Convert to NTFS option.
  6. At the confirmation popup box click on the OK button.
  7. Now, you have to click on Execute 1 Operation option which is at the top left corner.
  8. Lastly, click on Apply and when done then click Finish.
  9. That’s it, now you will be able to copy and paste large files to it.
