How Safe is Online Banking

The banking industry has changed a lot over the past decade. People are not using hard cash rather they prefer to use online transactions or smart cards (credit, debit, etc.).Let’s say, you are going to buy a TV with a 30% discount from the amazon store. What you will do? The answer is really simple. Just hook up your credit card and pay the amount. Within a few days, you are going to get the TV delivered to your doorstep.

But don’t you think such immense benefits come with great risk? The hackers are constantly trying to find a weak spot to exploited sensitive financial information. Once they get access to the details, they can wipe your entire account. But you should not think online banking is unsecured. The big bands are spending millions of dollars to ensure the safety of the users. But how safe is online banking? To know your answer you have to know the method used by the hackers to penetrate the security wall.

Phishing site

The phishing site is the most common way to scam people. In most cases, the hackers create a replica of the popular site and give lucrative offers. If the consumer purchases the product from such phishing sites, they are going to lose credit card information. To be precise, the banking data will be compromised and the consumer will not get the purchased product. For this very reason, you might often get promotional mail from the banking companies not to trust the third party or unsecured websites. Users can unblock blocked websites. The banks can’t control how you will use the functionalities of online banking. You have to carefully select the hub where you will use online banking details to complete a transaction. A safe approach from the consumer’s end can limit the threat to a great extent.

Stealing your identity

At times the smart hackers often still the identity of the people. By doing so, they can access the banking details and other sophisticated information. Even after knowing that your identity has been compromised, it will take a decent amount of time to settle the matters in the court and other financial organizations. So, being a user of modern technology, you must be very careful about the information publicly shared by you. Some of you share all the details in the social media platform and ask how safe is online banking? Online banking is very risky. For instance, the banks usually ask for date of birth, your nominee name, registered email address, etc. Before giving some vital information. So, making all this information public imposes a great threat to your online banking solution.

At times, the data are often breached from the reputed sites. So, try to use the search engine that doesn’t track you. Professional web surfer uses Privado as their private search engine since they know their movement will not be tracked. Even if you forget about the login URL of your online bank, use the private search since no one knows that you are a loyal client for certain banks.

Penetrating your digital device security

The security of your online banking greatly depends on your device. Let’s say, your PC has a key logger installed. You know you can keep track of each keystroke and access it from anywhere in the world. The hackers often use the same method to get critical information’s from your personal computer. Most of the time, such malicious software is installed during a random search. To avoid this problem, you can use the antivirus program. But this will not be enough. You should always use an updated version of the applications. For instance, if you rely on the outdated version of an online banking application, hackers can easily breach your security. The updates are usually given so that the hackers fail to breach the secured layer.

Use 2FA

By now, it should be clear that the security of your online banking system depends a lot on the users. If you are regular online bank users, you should enable two factors authentication method. By doing so, you will get a unique OTP or one-time password and receive sms online in your register email or mobile address. So, if the hackers manage to breach the security of your password, still they have to get access to your email address or your registered phone number. And breaching security on your email or smartphone is another big challenge. So, use an online banking system with caution.
