Amazon Alexa is a device that is similar to Google Assistant and is also voice operated. Used to perform specific tasks, Amazon Alexa is a really useful device that can be successfully used with the Smart Lock Pro + Connect. The August Smart Lock standalone does not supports the Amazon Alexa and lacks the functionality to do so.
Apple HomeKit is a framework developed by Apple so that you can connect smart home devices to your Apple devices and use different action and commands in order to control them. The Smart Lock Pro + Connect is fully compatible with the Apple HomeKit framework and the August Smart Lock is not compatible with the Apple HomeKit out of the box.
The Z-wave protocol is a really important and prevalent protocol that is developed for the purpose of home devices automation. This protocol made possible for the smart home appliances to develop their place in the technology market. Moreover, it allowed different technology to be used with it, such as voice assistance and application assistance.
The Smart Lock Pro + Connect does have the support for the the Z-wave protocol. In layman terms, this feature helps the smart lock to communicate between different devices from different manufacturers. The normal standalone August Smart Lock does not have support for Z-wave at all.
The remote access functionality is present in the Smart Lock Pro + Connect as it allows the user to control the doors and other functionalities of the Smart Lock remotely that is through their phones when they are outside of their homes. However, this functionality is not present in the August Smart Lock.
This section will tell you why the August Smart Lock does not supports the Voice Assistance while the Smart Lock Pro does. The main difference is that when you buy the standalone August Smart Lock you do not get the “August Connect” device. While when you buy the Smart Lock pro, you would get the “August Connect” device that itself ships with the smart lock.
The Smart Lock Pro thus supports the voice Assistance through Connect. This August Connect device provides Voice Assistance to the August Smart Lock which in turn increases the product price. We will discuss the price tag in the next section.

Possibly the most important factor for most people is the price of the product. However, we covered the functionalities first because there is not much price difference between the both products. Although, let us cover the difference between the price tags.
The August Smart Lock with August Connect comes at the price tag of $199.99 dollars which is $30 dollars less than the Smart Lock Pro + Connect.
The functionalities provided by the Smart Lock Pro + Connect outweighs the price point. At the same time, August Smart Lock also is a very worthy of its price tag. However, buying a August Smart Lock with the Connect can be a bit costly as you can just add $30 dollars and then go for the complete package that is Smart Lock Pro.
However, if you do not want to make the jump to the Smart Lock Pro, we would highly suggest August Smart Lock with the Connect device. This Connect device increases the functionalities of the standalone device and also provides support with the Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and support for Remote Access.

Even though the Connect device increases the functionalities of the August Smart Lock, if you want exclusive support for the Apple HomeKit then you would definitely have to buy the Smart Lock Pro + Connect to work with the Apple HomeKit.
